Brainstorming Ideas For a Blog Series

A blog is a necessity for today’s business owners.

It does not matter if you are an electrician, a carpenter, or a smartphone retailer; your company website needs a blog that is frequently updated.

It is highly effective with the creation of SEO (search engine optimization), has the potential to build your website visitor numbers, and creates a loyal following that appreciates the useful ideas and topics that you tackle.

The average company blog features weekly or bi-weekly stand-alone blog posts.

However,  more and more companies have reported having good success with a blog series.

In this setting, the posts do not necessarily stand alone.

Instead, they cover a topic and quite frequently build on the information offered in preceding posts.

This is tricky when the occasional reader is not willing to follow a series.

You can mitigate this problem by coming up with a blog series that has a little something for everyone.

  • Ask for reader input. What do your customers and readers want to know? If you are a carpenter, there may be an interest in simple DIY projects that involve children. As a plumber, you might get requests for posts that cover water line maintenance tips and tricks.
  • Check out the trends. Google and Yahoo both offer trend information. The same is true for Twitter and Facebook via the hashtag. When you can tie in your blog posts to current events, you have a better chance of finding interested readers who are scouring the Internet for articles on trending topics. If you manufacture green widgets, work your product into a series of current event posts that shows how green widgets could benefit celebrities behaving badly (for example).
  • Review products. Do you suggest specific products to your customers? Anything from phone chargers to paint brushes, which may help the customers in your line of business be more educated about the products they select? Go ahead and dedicate a few weeks or months to the review of the most commonly purchased products. Give facts about the good and bad points of each product.
  • Turn blog posts into tutorials. A series of tutorials that address your target audience is bound to be successful. Even if the topic is off the beaten path, it establishes you as a thought leader in your niche. This may actually get you new readers and increase the following of your blog and website.
