Video is it, right? People are consuming video more than french fries (although I could be wrong about that). But hey it’s not like I said more than chocolate. And many people will watch video while eating french fries or chocolate 😉
It’snot surprising that more video content is uploaded in 30 days than what all three major US television networks combined have created in 30 years. So why are people uploading that much video? Because people are watching that much video!
In fact, 1/3 of all online activity is spent watching video. Now let’s break that down. If you think people are only watching video about cats, well sorry but no. You can only watch so many funny cat videos. Well at least in one day. So what are people watching?
I’ll start with me. I watch a lot of how-to videos. For instance, this past week my garage door wasn’t closing properly. In fact, my neighbor was kind enough to text me last week while I was out to let me know my garage door was open. Yikes, I need to pay better attention when I click on my remote to make sure the door actually closes but that’s another story.
So I decided to do a search on why my remote won’t close my garage door and found a handy video on checking the sensors. Amazing! I followed the steps in the video and now my remote actually closes the garage door. And you know what? I really appreciated the company that put out that video. Now I believe they are not out just to take my money for something I can fix myself. Kudos to them and I’ll call them the next time I need service for my garage door.
Here’s the deal. How-to and product review videos are the top type of videos searched for in YouTube. In fact, how to video’s are up at least 70% year after year. You can see where I’m going with this right?
I also watch tutorials on how to use a certain product before I buy it. That’s it’s how we chose a lot of things we purchase around here. I like to see some of the features and benefits.
And I don’t just watch the videos from the vendor that developed the product. I like to get other people’s honest opinions as well. And I take it into consideration if they are only explaining because they have an affiliate link.
Check this out, 62% of people search up a product review before making a purchase and 52% are more likely to buy after seeing a review. I bet you’ve done that before too.
I do also like to watch the great commercials. And with Super Bowl a few days away you know those are going to have the sneak peaks out. I have had some favorites over the years. Do you?
I do check out other ads in my Facebook news feed as well. Although the ones that don’t target the right audience always makes me scratch my head. Do you ever get ads like that in your news feed that make you just shake your head? I’ll discuss the dangers of improper targeting in another article.
Here’s what I invite you to think about. How can you use how-to videos in your business to establish your presence online and let your customers know you want to help them? Start brainstorming tips that you can give away. You customers will likely subscribe to your YouTube channel or Like your Facebook page so they can easily find you again when they need help.
